At a recent World Economic Forum summit, John Kerry, former Democratic presidential candidate and Biden-Harris administration official, criticized the role of the First Amendment in limiting the government’s ability to censor social media.
"The era of mass democracy coincided with the rise of mass media..."
What?
When the mass media emerged in America in the era 1890-1930, we already had a constitutional republic. The era 1890-1930 was when we began to lose it. As the U.S. government claimed to have the right to control the new media (as they had not been allowed to control 'the press"). And to use that control to propagate leftist propaganda.
They don't fear it, they are slightly inconvenienced by it.

American Democracy wasn’t “mass” before the 20th C. Limited franchise, no direct election of Senate, etc.
First I read "America First" - Amendment.
