I just wish these people fleeing didn't absolutely destroy the real estate market where they go to. Relatively small towns that even a few years ago were affordable to live in Coastal FL have had their prices pretty much double which is a huge burden on the people who already live there.

Speaking from out here in deep deep blue country...I think an important but difficult to quantify anchor keeping many purples and reds stuck in blue hellholes is family duty; to elderly parents, children in school etc. as these obligations dry up naturally in time, surely many more will head to higher ground.

I live in NYC metro and will be leaving in next 2 years any middle class people I talk to about NYC and the horrible quality of life always say the same thing. I want to leave but my mom or dad or family etc.

“ Real estate prices have skyrocketed, ” yeah we know. Great, now we have a bunch of Yankees coming down and driving prices up and creating intolerable gridlock. The one thing that coastal cities have going for them was city life and culture. But that’s not so attractive when you consider the bad things like crime and filth..I’ll say that if the southern cities grow a lot more without good planning they’ll be unlivable. Atlanta is already waaay too crowded and expensive.

What about the impact of the 2 million arriving in Southern states from the other direction?

Do you think the Northern blue States are aiding and abetting this situation as some sort of retaliation against the South?
