In a recent appearance, the notorious atheist Richard Dawkins lamented the lost influence of Christianity, going so far as to declare himself a “cultural Christian.”
The enemies of Christianity are Communists and Muslims. Many thousands of Christians are persecuted and enslaved by Communists and Muslims, and the mass media refuses to report it.
I do think Dawkins' comments are noteworthy despite disdain from the right. I believe it reflects an embryonic sign the arrogant professional class are beginning to understand where we are headed. Obviously it is not their enlightened utopia.
For someone like Dawkins who is clearly not stupid he must understand the New Britons who increasingly surround him will ban all teaching of darwinian evolution. Just one aspect of a world he has played a part in creating.
Am I mistaken in thinking Dawkins had always admitted to being a “cultural Christian”? Not ever outspokenly, but insofar as he recognized that (classical) liberalism and humanism (to which he subscribes) could only exist within a society where Christian norms were the “default culture”.
I know at least one of the prominent New Atheists said this, so I’m not so surprised Dawkins would say this, especially when speaking against Islam in the West.
When younger I read all of Dawkins books and watched his documentaries.
He was intentional and underhanded in his maliciousness and subversion.
Re-viewing his works as an adult it is incredulous how deceptive and manipulative the edits were. Worse than any MSM channel, worse than even a show like Stephen Colbert.
He deserves no pity, no trust or honor. He believed that the Ends would justify his means, and instead his ends match his means.
I remember reading The God Delusion, expecting it to be an intellectual challenge. Turned out to be vapid, shallow, bullshit. He constructed strawman, and then dismantled them, and expected to be applauded for it. Zero respect for Dawkins.
Dawkins is admitting to being a parasite living off the remains of a dead host, one which he helped kill. 'cultural Christian' is an oxymoron. It's what we all are now by default, and it's not sustainable. The center cannot hold.
Meanwhile why not check out the topic Trump (Orange Jesus) Pledges To Defend Christianity Against the Left. Such a claim/project could quite rightly be titled Trump endorses the efforts of right-wing Christians to create a Christian Utopia.
When fascism (inevitably) comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag, promoted as a campaign to defend freedom, and justified with appeals to the "infallible authority" of their cultic/tribalistic and the Bible
Give us a break. Do you know what fascism is? Who has centralized autocracy by politically weaponising the justice system? Who has the military industrial complex in his back pocket? Who is forcibly suppressing his opposition?
Religion is just lies to keep the masses satiated. Nobody actually believes all that bullshit. God is a hoax invented to control us and make us sacrifice ourselves to the lie of divinity.
Your comments reveal no historical perspective. You can only say that as a product of the Enlightenment, which has been very successful in doing away with traditional religion, replacing it with liberal universalism, which is the default ‘truth’ that allows you and ‘everybody’ to say it was all a ‘hoax’. You are letting your assumptions go unexamined. There’s some truth in your claim, though, from a present day perspective, but religion, properly understood was not a hoax; it was a story created out of the human need to understand our place in the cosmos. Trouble is, we still have the need but we no longer have religion to help us with the answers. Many of the problems we see today are a result of that absence.
Religion has been exploited to that end, but it's hardly why it was created. The earliest Christians were not being manipulated by any 'Christian' rulers, they were persecuted the Romans, who had their own pagan beliefs. Yes, eventually, Christianity spread, and that allowed powerful people to use it against a population, just as the Romans had used their beliefs against the population. This is a function of power, not religion. It's the corruption of religion, not religion per se. No matter what, power will tend to corrupt a belief system, any belief system. Communism is expressly against religion, but it has also proven to be equally corruptible, perhaps even more so. You think you are immune to this as an atheist, if that is what you are? Whatever we believe in our hearts to be most valuable in life is our 'religion' and that makes us vulnerable to those in power who wish to control us. Is it money, family, freedom, security, what have you? Any of those can be a 'god', open to the abuse of power, just like religious belief. In themselves, though, they may be considered 'good' and of great value to our life, just like religions of the world.
Dawkins completely dismantled our culture's Neurath's Boat in the middle of the ocean. Now that the wind and the waves are picking up and we're treading water with no land in sight, he's having second thoughts. According to the ancient story, though, Christ has come through for people who cry out to him while sinking in a storm. If Dawkins gets desperate enough to beg God for help, who knows what will happen?
Better late than never. It is obvious we are in a spiritual war. Leftists and atheists frame any Christian morality as Christofacism: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/christofascist-leftist-cult-religion

Beware of anything the “arrogant professional class” supports. Even when they are on the right track they are wrong.
Gee, I wonder why he prefers Christianity to Islam. Duh. His feeble endorsement of Christianity is much more incriminatory than affirming.
Dawkins says Christianity is better Islam than be he doesn't say why. He won't admit that it is because Christianity's beliefs are truths.

Yes, I too read his books when young. He has misled a great many people.

And I will gladly welcome it.
Dear Dawkins; OK Boomer.
You go to Hell.

Religion is a lie created by our rulers to make us obey them. Always has been.

Woke is the religion of me Me MEEEE!
Christianity is a cute little fantasy for incels, but people lose their way when they expect it to mean jack shit in the real world.
Haha what?!? What is your religion?
I'd bet "secular humanist". No matter how deep the depravity the world falls into, he'll never admit he's wrong.
