MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, recently announced her intention to engage in another round of philanthropy by donating $640 million to charity. Of the $60 billion she received after splitting with her husband, Scott has already given over $16 billion to various nonprofit organizations.
An excellent article which exposes a very serious and problematic issue. At best each one of us should direct our own voluntary charitable giving as directly as possible to the individual or the entity that we wish to support. Since that’s quite hard to do in this era, the next best thing is very carefully vet any entity that we wish to use as the “designated giver” .
