MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, recently announced her intention to engage in another round of philanthropy by donating $640 million to charity.
In the past, sovereigns required land and taxable subjects who could be sent to fight, and their scope was largely confined to that territory (unless they built empires.) The astounding surfeit of wealth in modern society has made the above requirement moot, allowing the creation of analogues of the state which are independent of territory. NGOs are a serious part of this new problem. Sovereignty has been systematically leached from governments into unaccountable and mostly hidden NGOs. They have become 'dark power,' detectable only by their effects, like the hypothetical dark matter.
Building rival networks of patronage is a partial solution. Ultimately, NGOs must be exposed and their influence negated.
An excellent article which exposes a very serious and problematic issue. At best each one of us should direct our own voluntary charitable giving as directly as possible to the individual or the entity that we wish to support. Since that’s quite hard to do in this era, the next best thing is very carefully vet any entity that we wish to use as the “designated giver” .
A lady in Cleveland, covered in filth and near death, cried when I gave her a 20, so I gave her an extra 50, she was so excited she screamed for joy and got spittle on my face including on my lips, it was terrifying.
That day in Cleveland I probably gave out $400, but that’s not my point, I’ve got money so no biggie. Ya what I’m saying is :!good old money, people like that, especially the destitute. On my tax return charitable contributions are negligible, maybe 1k.
Direct action. I think it’s pretty simple, people need money not lefty, wankers preaching and ladling soup. I think that poor soul in Cleveland felt like a millionnaire for that afternoon, with my lousy 70 bucks.
I think the central issue is that human beings are assholes . That’s my read.
Dude that lady spent your money on booze and/or drugs. You enabled her self-harm, not helped her. But at least you have a feel-good virtue story to post to forums.
I live in Toronto I was down for a race at mid Ohio race track and spent the night in Cleveland and had all day to walk around. Lovely old public buildings.
Mackenzie Bezos is destroying society to spite her husband. She single-handedly is funding hundreds of demoralized NGOs that should not exist. We need to build a patronage network on the right in response: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/macarthur-fellowship-leftist-patronage-network
